After departing Z-town we made our way South to Alcapulco despite the bad rumors we have heard. We decided to drop the hook for a quick look, besides we need to get fuel every chance we can. Alcapulco was a giant bay boosting with hundreds of hotel and houses. It seemed to put Las Vegas to shame with its amount of hotels. With a closer look the town appeared to have quite a worn-out look. Alcapulco had suffered a recession in tourism probably due to the popularity of all the new resort towns of Mexico and maybe because of the bad rumors that we had heard. After provisioning, fuel, ice, and beer, we putted around the point the get the opportunity to view the world famous Alcapulco Divers. It was a bit hard to find because we were looking for a 200’ cliff with Mexicans in banana hammocks soaring through the air. As it turns out they don’t really jump that high, though still jumping at 80 feet, the dangerous part of the dive was to time the waves before plunging into the very shallow waters below. After playing tourist we moved on south. After about an hour Chad yelled “Scott get up I think I see a capsized boat.” As we got closer we saw a submerged panga with two fishermen in the sea waving for their lives. We hauled them onto “Get Lost “and headed straight back to Alcapulco. The two fishermen were pale and their hands white and pealing. These men were bobbing around in the water for over 20 hours. The ride back to you could see the fear in the two fisherman’s eyes as they were scarfing down the food and water we offered them. By the time we returned to the submerged panga to take some photos, the two fishermen friend’s where back on another panga. They eventually were able to right the panga back to the surface. Though these fishermen just about lost their lives they will most likely be back to sea fishing as soon as they can.
